Pretty much every club in the Championship wants to sign Louie Barry right now, but Sunderland are among the favourites to land the striker.
The Aston Villa youngster is in red-hot form on loan at Stockport County at the moment, but it is looking increasingly unlikely the forward will remain in League One beyond the January transfer window.
Sunderland may be flying high in the Championship right now, especially after the dramatic comeback win against Swansea City at the weekend, but they could still do with a little bit more firepower to keep up their promotion push.
While Regis Le Bris has suggested the goals will come the more games Sunderland play, dipping into the transfer market for a player like Barry would surely fix those goalscoring issues a lot quicker and more effectively.

Sunderland named as one of four clubs chasing Louie Barry
As per a report from Darren Witcoop in the Sunday Mirror (page 67, December 15, 2024), it is stated Louie Barry will indeed be recalled from his loan spell with Stockport in the New Year, and will then be sent out on loan immediately to a club in the second tier.
Apparently, Villa “want him to be tested” in the Championship after seeing his impressive start to the campaign in League One, where he’s scored 14 goals in 20 games so far.

According to Witcoop, there will be a “four-way scrap” between the top teams in the division — Leeds United, Middlesbrough, Burnley, and Sunderland — for Barry, with the four sides “all keen” on securing a transfer that could help give them the edge in the promotion race.

Whoever signs Louie Barry will get promoted this season
The battle for promotion this season is hotting up, and while Leeds United and Sheffield United look the most likely to secure automatic passage to the top flight, the play-offs could be very interesting indeed.
MORE SUNDERLAND STORIES
One thing’s for sure, any club that can add Louie Barry to their attack will have a massive advantage in that fight, and he is clearly going to be one of the most coveted targets in January for a lot of teams.
Based on goals scored this season, it would appear Burnley need him the most — they’ve scored 24 goals, while Sunderland, Middlesbrough, and Leeds have all scored more than 30 each.
Regis Le Bris claims he is more interested in helping Sunderland’s young players develop rather than signing new players, but Barry has to be a player the Black Cats look at if they are serious about going up this season.
