O'Neil's last match in charge was Saturday's 2-1 home defeat to Ipswich.
Gary O'Neil has been sacked as Wolves manager, with a clear favourite already installed to replace him.
The Englishman departs Molineux with Wolves in 19th position in the Premier League after their 2-1 defeat to Ipswich on Saturday.
Reports claimed that the club's board still backed O'Neil after Monday's 2-1 defeat at West Ham, but another loss in front of their own fans appears to have forced a decision to be made.
The Telegraph's John Percy reports that Wolves have decided to sack O'Neil and an official announcement is set to be made.
He is the third Premier League manager to be sacked this season after Erik ten Hag and Steve Cooper left Manchester United and Leicester City respectively.
The next appointment will be crucial for Wolves' ownership, who have come under increasing fan pressure for their decisions to allow key players to leave the club while not adequately replacing them.
And a clear favourite has already emerged in the race to replace O'Neil at Molineux.
As per the current odds, Manchester United legend Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is the clear frontrunner to return to football for the first time since being sacked by the Red Devils in 2024.
The Norwegian was present at Molineux yesterday, but journalist Andy Mitten reported that his appearance was related to his support of close friend and Ipswich manager Kieran McKenna, and the fact that his son is an Ipswich fan.
Solskjaer is odds-on favourite to take the role, ahead of Steve Cooper and former Porto boss Sergio Conceicao.
Another option could be West Brom boss Carlos Corberan, who is 10/1 having established a reputation as one of the best tactical coaches outside of the Premier League.
And David Moyes is 12/1 to make a return to football for the first time since leaving West Ham at the end of last season.
