“We’ll see at the end of the season" - Chelsea and Liverpool target hints at exit from current club

Lyon forward Rayan Cherki has provided an update on his future amid interest from Chelsea and a host of other Premier League clubs. The France under-21 international is currently being linked with a move away from Lyon following the club's financial struggles.

The French club is currently at risk of being relegated to the second tier of French football at the end of the season. They could also be hit with a transfer ban and salary oversight as a result of financial irregularities.

A lot could largely depend on their outgoings in the upcoming January transfer window so as to balance their books and avoid a potential sanction. It is also expected that a couple of star players could be sold with, one of such is Cherki.

The Frenchman, who extended his contract with Lyon last summer, is reportedly valued at around €30 million, which is relatively fair, considering the current inflated European transfer market.

Cherki, who has been in tremendous form for Lyon this season, is rumoured to be attracting interest from a couple of Premier League clubs such as Chelsea, Liverpool, Newcastle United, and Crystal Palace.

When asked about his future at Lyon, following a sublime masterclass in his side's 3-2 Europa League victory against Eintracht Frankfurt, he bluntly told Canal Plus (via TBRFootball):

"We’ll see at the end of the season if I’m still here or not."

Lyon manager claims Chelsea target deserves to be in France's senior national team

Lyon manager Pierre Sage was impressed with Cherki's performance during his side's emphatic 3-2 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League.

The 21-year-old star put in a sublime performance during the encounter, scoring one goal and providing two assists. Cherki equalized for Lyon in the 27th minute, before turning provider for Malick Fofana and Ernest Nuamah in the 50th and 54th minutes, respectively.

The victory puts Lyon in 4th place on the Europa League table and thus edges them closer to a round-of-16 qualification.

Meanwhile, head coach Sage has now made a case for Cherki to be called up to France's senior men's squad. Speaking about the Chelsea and Newcastle United-linked forward, he said (via French Football Weekly):

"I think today he is looked at, he is considered. His experience at the Olympic Games had not been very positive, but today he has other arguments. But if he is called up, he will deserve it."

The 21-year-old forward has registered a total of five goals and six assists across all competitions for Lyon this season.
