Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is the favourite to replace Gary O’Neil at Wolves.

The former Manchester United boss was at Molineux as Wolves lost 2-1 to Ipswich Town in the Premier League on Saturday. Wanderers are said to have axed O’Neil in the wake of that damaging defeat, with Wolves down in 19th place in the table.

O’Neil leaves Wolves four points adrift of safety, with nine points from 16 matches. He was in charge of the club for 16 months, having replaced Julen Lopetegui in August 2023.

They finished in 14th place in the Premier League last season, but are in the thick of a relegation battle this campaign having claimed just two wins.

Solskjaer has been out of work since leaving Old Trafford just over three years ago. And speaking last month about the possibility of returning to management, he said: "It must be something exciting enough, together with the right people.

"But I feel so well now that there must be something that triggers me enough for me to choose to travel from Nordmore (in Norway).

"I think that a national team could suit me, but then it can't be on the other side of the globe."
