You could almost see the tension lift around the North East yesterday as the final whistle blew on Newcastle United's 4-0 win over Leicester City.

This season Newcastle have only really turned up for the big games and have left a lot to be desired in games in which they'd be expected to win comfortably.

Thankfully, that was absolutely not the case yesterday as Newcastle destroyed Leicester at St James' Park. The only real complaint is that it was only 4-0 after the Magpies had 27 attempts at goal, 11 of which were on target.

Is it pure greed to be demanding more? Maybe, but the chances were there to be taken.

Alan Shearer said Newcastle 'dominated' against Leicester

However, as we've already said, yesterday was about putting in a good performance and coming away with a result and in that regard, we can have zero complaints.

At full-time, Alan Shearer summed up the feeling around the region with a post on X which completely nailed the feeling amongst the fans.

"That’s better. Dominated the whole game. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 #NEWLEI"

Newcastle face Brentford in the Carabao Cup next

It really was domination. Aside from the opening few minutes when Newcastle gave the ball away needlessly a couple of times, it was all one-way traffic as evidenced by Leicester's one effort on target all game which game from outside of the area and was a very comfortable save by Martin Dubravka.

Newcastle are at home again in midweek as they take on Brentford in the Carabao Cup quarter-final. The Magpies will be out for revenge for last week's humiliation and this performance against Leicester is the perfect springboard to deliver that revenge.

Owing to Newcastle's domination and being out of sight early on, Eddie Howe was able to pull some of his big players out of the game early yesterday giving them more chance of being 100% ready for Brentford.
