Tottenham, Newcastle United place €30 million-rated Ligue 1 whizkid on top of their wishlist

Tottenham and Newcastle United have reportedly identified Lens defensive sensation Abdukodir Khusanov as a top target.

Abdukodir Khusanov’s impressive rise has not gone unnoticed. The Uzbek international has placed himself on the wishlist of quite a few top clubs on the back of his consistent performances in Ligue 1.

According to La Voix du Nord via Sport Witness, Tottenham and Newcastle United are two Premier League outfits that are keen on adding him to their squad. They have placed him at the top of their wishlist as they look to add more quality to their backline.

After making a name for himself while playing for Belarusian side FC Energetik-BGU Minsk, Abdukodir Khusanov made the move to France in the summer of 2023. While there was a significant amount of interest in the 20-year-old centre-back, Lens managed to secure his services.

Khusanov broke into the Ligue 1 club’s first team in no time and is already one of the mainstays. He has featured in 15 matches this season and has racked up over 1,100 minutes. The Uzbek international has formed a dependable partnership with Kevin Danso, and his work has not gone unnoticed.

Tottenham and Newcastle want Khusanov

While his contract at the French club runs until the summer of 2027, multiple top clubs in Europe are keen on prising Abdukodir Khusanov away. Tottenham and Newcastle Newcastle are two clubs that have been monitoring him, and they are very impressed with what they have seen.

Both clubs seek more quality at the back, and the 20-year-olds strong physical presence along with his ability to play out from the back makes him an ideal fit for Spurs as well as the Magpies’ system. Ange Postecoglou and Eddie Howe will both love to add the young defensive sensation to their squad.

But, it won’t be that easy as other top clubs, including Paris Saint-Germain, have also taken note of his growth. More importantly, Lens won’t let him leave on the cheap. He is currently valued at €12 million, but the Ligue 1 club wants a minimum of €30 million to part ways with their defensive gem.

While Khusanov is at the top of both Newcastle United and Tottenham’s wishlist, it is not yet a certainty that they will make an offer for him. Given his age, and the kind of potential he has, the 20-year-old can surely be a great signing for the long run.
