Wolves have sacked manager Gary O’Neil after 16 months in charge of the Old Gold.
It was an inevitable situation that has finally been addressed, as Wolves decided to bring O’Neil’s time at Molineux to a close.
Wolves fans lost all trust in O’Neil in what has been a horrendous 2024 for the Midlands club, winning three Premier League games in seven months.
Wolves’ defeat to Ipswich Town was the deciding factor for the club to dismiss O’Neil, with the search for a new manager underway.

Jeff Shi addresses Wolves decision to sack Gary O’Neil
Now that the news is confirmed, the hunt is underway for the Old Gold to identify O’Neil’s successor but, it won’t be easy.
Already, Wolves have been let down by Fosun on their quest for a new boss, with several candidates not willing to work under the owners’ model.
First, the club expressed their gratitude for the work the manager did during his time at Molineux, with chairman Jeff Shi thanking O’Neil for his efforts over the last 16 months.
“We’re very grateful to Gary for all his effort, dedication and hard work during his time at the club, and we wish him and his team the best of luck for the future,” said Shi in the club’s official announcement.

O’Neil’s record at Wolves
For many, the news of O’Neil’s departure will come as good news however, the manager’s exit only emphasises how quickly things can change in football.
It was less than a year ago that Wolves were in discussion for a potential charge for European qualification, with a flurry of impressive results satisfying those at Molineux.
At that moment, it was strongly believed that O’Neil was the right man to take Wolves forward but, a few months down the line and the club’s hunt for a new manager is underway.
After taking charge days before the 2023/24 season commenced, O’Neil leaves Molineux with a record of 20 wins, 11 draws and 32 defeats, averaging 1.13 Points per game.
