Everton have had a poor start to this season and find themselves sitting just three points above the relegation zone.

In a game that Arsenal dominated, the Blues did well to come away with a 0-0 draw on Saturday [14 December] after a solid defensive display.

However, this is the Toffees’ third 0-0 result in their last five games and with only 14 goals so far this season, Everton are one of the lowest-scoring sides in the Premier League.

Therefore, if they are going to get themselves to a place of safety this season, they need to sort out their goalscoring form.

One man who seems unable to help with that though is Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

MORE TOFFEES STORIES

Despite previously being a reliable player for the Blues, the striker has failed to get going this season and has just two goals from his 15 appearances so far.

With the 27-year-old out of contract at Goodison Park at the end of the season, his performance against Arsenal surely put to bed any further questions about where his future lies.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin on his way out of Everton

Although the Toffees did go to the Emirates to play a defensive game, which they executed well, Calvert-Lewin’s performance was unacceptable for a player of his level.

Before being substituted off after 66 minutes, the striker only touched the ball 17 times and had just one successful dribble as well as a passing accuracy of 64% according to FotMob.

While it was never going to be a game where the Blues were expected to go and score lots, Calvert-Lewin’s lack of anything throughout his game was staggering especially when you consider that Armando Broja had nearly as many touches of the ball despite coming on as his substitute.

Sean Dyche has not given much away when asked about the future of the English striker ahead of his contract expiration but if the Toffees want to go anywhere under their new ownership, they need to upgrade on players like this immediately.

The 27-year-old’s performance at The Emirates surely showed that a new start is the only possible way forward for all parties.

In other Everton news, Robbie Savage was left shocked by what Chris Sutton told him about Everton after the game against Arsenal.
