Gary O’Neil has now been revealed from his duties at Wolves following a terrible start to their Premier League season.
The writing had been on the wall for some time. Wolves have been dreadful so far this campaign and find themselves in a relegation battle.
After one of the worst starts to a campaign in Wolves’ history, O’Neil has now been given the sack after a humiliating 2-1 loss to Ipswich Town at Molineux.
While the Englishman did have some great moments in the Old Gold dugout, there is now plenty of work that needs to be done if the Molineux side are going to survive.
Plenty of managers have already been linked to the position and Molineux News has highlighted eight potential candidates who could be brought in.

David Moyes

Arguably the most experienced manager on this list, David Moyes has been out of a job since the summer after he left fellow Premier League outfit West Ham.
The Scotsman had a great deal of success at the Hammers, with the London club regularly competing for Europe. He hit the height of his success at West Ham in 2023 when he won the Europa League.

On top of this, Moyes also had a long and successful spell at Everton as well as jobs at Manchester United, Real Sociedad, Sunderland and Preston North End.
Graham Potter

Graham Potter was once seen as one of the brightest upcoming English managers.
After rising to fame for his work at Swedish side Östersund, he then saw success in the Championship with Swansea City.
From there, he moved to Brighton in the Premier League where he was praised for his football and success while working on a tight budget.
However, after leaving for Chelsea in September 2022, he struggled and was eventually sacked in April 2023.
It may be seen as a bit of a coup if Wolves could attract Potter to the managerial position but he would need to quickly regain his barrings if the Old Gold are going to survive.
Rob Edwards

The former Wolves star has had a successful transition into management so far. After succeeding as the Wolves Under 23s manager, he went on to get Forest Green promoted to League One.
Following this, a short spell at Watford followed before he took over Luton Town. Here, he took the Hatters to the Premier League after winning promotion via the playoffs.
Despite many tipping Luton to go down without a fight, Edwards managed to impress many with how his team performed.
Now, back in the Championship, Luton is struggling once again as they sit in the bottom half.
Edwards has been regularly linked to the Wolves job and Hobbs may now make a move.
Mark Robins

A potential outsider for the Wolves job, Mark Robins is well known for his recent success at Coventry City.
Taking charge of the West Midlands side for the second time in 2017, he was able to transform the club from a League Two side and take them back into the Championship. This saw Robins win both League One and the EFL Trophy.
Coventry were also just moments away from further success. The club were one penalty kick away from the Premier League in 2023 as they lost to Luton Town in the playoffs.
Robins also masterminded a 3-2 victory over Wolves in the FA Cup quarter-finals in March before once again being defeated on penalties by Manchester United in the semi-finals.
After a poor start to their Championship campaign, Robins was controversially sacked in November 2024.
Sérgio Conceição

A favourite amongst the Molineux faithful to take the job, Sérgio Conceição has had a great start to his management career.
After impressing at multiple clubs, the Portuguese manager earned a move to Porto in 2017.
Here, he lasted until 2024, winning 11 trophies, including three league titles in his spell.
While Wolves may struggle to attract Conceição, they have pulled off similar feats before such as bringing in Nuno Espirito Santo in the Championship.

The Aberdeen manager has had a sensational start in Scotland since he moved to the Dons in the summer.
In such a short space of time, Jimmy Thelin has turned the club into an early title contender, winning 15 of his first 17 games in charge.
Due to his impressive string of results, Thelin was linked to the Wolves job earlier this season.
With the 46-year-old no doubt a good upcoming manager, it remains to be seen if he has the experience to make the jump to the Premier League.

A manager known that’s perhaps not as well known to Wolves fans as some others on this list, Vitor Pereira would come to Molineux with a wealth of experience though.
The current Al Shabab boss has been working in the game as a manager for a very long time, enjoying stints at Porto, Al Ahli, Fenerbahce and Corinthians among others down the years.
And it’ll be music to Wolves’ fans’ ears that he’s done a pretty damn good job at the majority of these clubs, winning four league titles – including two at Porto.
The Portuguese manager has been linked with the club by David Ornstein, who has reported that Wolves are currently in talks with Al Shabab over the release clause attached to his deal in Saudi Arabia.

A Man United and Premier League legend, Ole Gunnar Solskjær has been out of work since 2021 when he was sacked from the Red Devils.
However, the Norwegian arguably had a successful era in Manchester, winning 54% of his games as he reached the final of the Europa League.
However, his experience in a relegation battle is limited, with his last test coming in 2014 went he helped send Cardiff City down.
