It was the perfect start to a huge seven days for Newcastle on Saturday, where we saw Eddie Howe’s Mags hammer Leicester 4-0 thanks to goals from Jacob Murphy, Alexander Isak and Bruno Guimaraes.
However, with two more crucial games to come next week, there’s news to share on the midfield duo who look set to serve suspensions.
**Joelinton blow**
------------------
After picking up his fifth yellow card of the season in the second half yesterday, **Joelinton** faces a one-match ban and will be unavailable for selection when we take on Ipswich Town next Saturday.
Perhaps the only ‘negative’ from our big win yesterday, although the Brazilian is likely to be missed less for a tussle with the Suffolk-based side than he would be against Aston Villa and Manchester United; our next two league games after before the five-yellow cut-off.
Fabian Schar and Sandro Tonali are at risk of missing those crunch fixtures, with a booking for either at Portman Road being their fifth – forcing a gap in the preferred lineup for Villa at home.
The cut off for the pair that are on four yellows is 19 games before it resets, meaning they will have to get through the Ipswich, Aston Villa and Man United games without a caution to avoid suspension.
**Longstaff out of quarter-final**
----------------------------------
Joelinton will still be available for selection for Wednesday’s huge quarter-final and a chance for redemption against Brentford, and is likely to start as he will get a rest on the weekend.
However, **Sean Longstaff** will not feature in the Carabao Cup clash owing to a suspension of his own, so will be fresh for the Ipswich game, where Lewis Miley and Joe Willock will also be pushing for appearances in Joelinton’s absence.
Longstaff was booked in the last two rounds against Wimbledon and Chelsea, and will serve his one game ban in the cup competition on Wednesday evening.
Howe on “bizarre” Joelitnon moment
----------------------------------
On Joelinton’s booking, Howe said: “It’s bizarre how things work. I’m talking to him from the side, he’s right in front of me and I’m saying ‘Joey, don’t get booked’, and he’s like ‘Don’t worry I won’t’. Two minutes later he gets booked.”
“You just couldn’t make it up. In some senses sometimes these things happen. I’m disappointed to lose him because he’s a player we need in every away game but at least he can now play free and play his normal game.”
