'A joy to watch': Danny Murphy shares what he really loves about Jadon Sancho after watching him at Chelsea

Former Premier League midfielder Danny Murphy has been discussing Chelsea winger Jadon Sancho.

Jadon Sancho heads into Chelsea‘s match against Brentford later in great form, scoring in his side’s 4-3 win over Tottenham Hotspur last Sunday.

It followed his strike away at Southampton, which was his first goal for the club, so the 24-year-old really is at the top of his game right now.

His contribution has helped Chelsea to enter the title race, something not many people were expecting. However, Chelsea players are not going over the top despite their fantastic form this season, according to Sancho.

Sancho has generally struggled in England since joining Manchester United from Borussia Dortmund back in 2021.

In his debut season at Old Trafford, the Englishman only managed to score three goals in 29 Premier League appearances.

This term, he already has two in just nine outings and has played well overall, catching the attention of Murphy, who has applauded his balance and versatility.

In his column for the Daily Mail, the former Liverpool midfielder said: “I love seeing young players overcome adversity and Sancho has been a joy to watch this season. England’s World Cup qualifiers begin in March and if he continues with his present form, don’t be surprised to see him called up by new manager Thomas Tuchel.

“A fit and confident Sancho is an asset to any club. He has wonderful balance that helps him glide across the pitch. His versatility is an added asset in the modern game; he can beat a man right or left.”

Maresca can be tough on his players, Sancho recently revealed, so that is one thing that may be pushing him right now.

Danny Murphy slams Erik ten Hag and Manchester United for not helping Jadon Sancho

It is fair to say that Murphy was not impressed with the treatment and handling of Sancho during his time at Old Trafford.

In his column, he went on to add: “Sancho became the poster boy for all their failings and later both Ten Hag and the fans turned against him. He could have handled certain things better but young men who quickly acquire fame and fortune sometimes need help, and he didn’t get any.

“This is a fresh start. Chelsea are a club on the rise and he’s feeling loved and appreciated. Enzo Maresca has given him belief and he’s in a young team all on the same pathway which gives them a band-of-brothers feel.”

Chelsea have given Sancho a fresh start, and right now it is not something that the England international is wasting.

Everything suggests that Sancho is currently the first choice left winger at Chelsea and had it not been for a small injury and ineligibility to play against his parent club United, he probably would have had a few more games under his belt.

Whatever the case, you would expect the former Dortmund star to add to his appearances later when Chelsea welcome Brentford to Stamford Bridge, given the form that he is in.
