Tottenham left-back Destiny Udogie was forced off in Sunday night's Premier League clash with Southampton due to injury.
The Italian helped Ange Postecoglou's men race into a 4-0 lead at St Mary's Stadium. James Maddison, Son Heung-min, Dejan Kulusevski and Pape Matar Sarr were all on the scoresheet in a thrilling opening 25 minutes.
However, Udogie was unable to continue past the fourth goal after being involved in the build-up to Sarr's goal. After winning the ball back from Kyle Walker-Peters, the left-back ran up the pitch before the midfielder showed great composure.
Pedro Porro, who dropped to the bench in place of Djed Spence, came on in his place with Spence moving to replace Udogie on the left side of Spurs' defence.
Udogie has started every Premier League game this season and has emerged as Postecoglou’s number one left-back. The extent of his injury is currently unknown but reports from Optus Sport have suggested it is a back issue.
Postecoglou will provide an update on the Italy international after the game at Southampton. Udogie missed the Europa League win over Ferencvaros in October due to a hamstring injury; a similar problem had forced him to miss the end of last season and the European Championships with Italy.
Spurs’ goals did dry up after the substitute but Maddison added to his tally in the dying seconds of the first-half to make it 5-0. The scoreline was the first time that Tottenham have scored five goals in the first half of a Premier League game.
