Sonny breaks Club's Premier League assist record

Heung-Min Son broke our Premier League assist record in Sunday's trip to Southampton with his 68th assist in the competition

Having levelled the record - which has stood for over 30 years - with 25 minutes on the clock at St Mary's as he provided the set up for Pape Matar to guide home our fourth, he then went on to grab another right on the stroke of half-time.

To make it 5-0 before the break on the south coast, Sonny released James Maddison into the area to bag his second goal of the evening and that pass took him ahead of the legendary Darren Anderton in terms of Premier League assists.

A player for us from the start of the Premier League era in 1992 and went on to make 299 appearances for us in the competition - a record in itself until Hugo Lloris broke it at the start of the 2021/22 season - provided 67 assists for us in the competition before departing our doors in 2004.

Joining us from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer of 2015, Sonny has become a legend of the Club in his own right as he has gone from strength to strength in Lilywhite, scoring and assisting for fun in not just England's top flight but all competitions.

Earlier this year, our skipper became just the 14th player in our history to make 400 appearances for the Club, he made his 300th appearance in the Premier League, he moved into fifth in our all-time goalscoring charts while he also moved into the Premier League's top 20 goalscorers of all time.
