With a 1-0 win on the road against Liverpool, we signed off 2024 in the Barclays Women's Super League on a high.
Our interim head coach, Renée Slegers shared her thoughts on the difficult victory and looking ahead to Bayern Munich on Wednesday evening.
_Here is everything she had to say:_
**on a tight victory after a short turnaround...**
Most important was to do the business that we needed to do, and that was getting the three points. We come away from from Norway with a good performance, good result. We come back in the middle of the night. We have one day to recharge for the players, then one training, and then we travel to Liverpool. So it's been very intense. It's an intense block.
The last block was very intense as well. So I mean, it's not our best performance, but looking at putting it into perspective and looking at where we've come from, the most important thing today was to take three points, and we did that.
**on winning despite fatigue...**
I'm very happy with that. And again, our clean sheets and defensive solidity set us up to be able to win the game today again. So I'm very happy with the result.
**on another win whilst Chelsea and City dropped points...**
We can only control what we can control. So we did what we needed to do today and obviously, I saw the Chelsea and City results as well. I'm happy we are getting closer, but there's still no control from our side on what they do. We need to keep on looking at ourselves and keep on improving.
**on Alessia Russo scoring once again...**
I'm very happy for her. She works really hard, but I want to give credit to the rest of the team as well because we all work really hard to set up good situations in front of goal, and to keep as many clean sheets as possible. We do that together - 11 players. So yes, Alessia is really good at the moment, and she's getting on the end of it, but I credit the whole team because we do it together.
**on huge away support in Liverpool...**
It's so important. We get the backing of the fans. I think 1,500 travelling fans in Liverpool today. We had 1,000 in Norway in the middle of the week. So they will always be here in good times and when we go through harder times. It's just so good to always feel the support.
**on one game left in 2024...**
Now we've signed off the WSL for the first half of the season with a 1-0 win. So that's good. Now it's only two days, and then it's Bayern again. So all we can do to recover and get ready for Wednesday. We will do and I'm sure the team will be ready to take on Bayern on Wednesday.
