After yet another victory for our Gunners, Steph Catley gave her assessment of Sunday's win and our squad's growing consistency.
Our Australian defender put in another 90-minute shift as our backline recorded their 12th clean sheet this season.
"We've had a fair few games piled into a short amount of time recently, but we've been playing some nice football," said Steph after the full-time whistle. "Today was a little more scrappy and that's sometimes how it goes. The fact that we still got through with three points and a clean sheet is important. It happens in football, so I think we handled it quite well. Lots to look back on and definitely lots to improve on."
Historically a left-back, Steph has developed a centre-back partnership with Leah Williamson as of October.
"It's funny, I've played centre-back for a long time in my career, just off and on in short periods. I think recently, I've just been enjoying it a lot and embraced it a little more than maybe I used to. The team's been playing well in general, so it helps when everyone's clicking. I've been really enjoying it and it's nice to get another clean sheet."
As our squad looks to go out on a high in 2024, our defender shared the good feeling in the camp.
"There's a definite buzz at the moment. We feel good about what we're doing. We're confident. We're getting results in the Champions League as well and I think playing in those big games, the biggest games you can be playing in, sets you up really well for all the other games as well.
"We're just on a bit of a roll and hopefully, we can keep that going, keep the confidence going and just settle into what we're doing. At the moment, it's just game by game. We're focusing on taking it one step at a time. Hopefully, we can continue that."
