Aaron Ramsdale admits what he has to say Tottenham did 'really well' during demolition of Southampton

Tottenham Hotspur were back to their devastating best as they put Southampton to the sword in a 5-0 demolition job at St. Mary’s.

A brace from James Maddison accompanied by goals from Heung-min Son, Dejan Kulusevski and Pape Matar Sarr capped off a perfect night for Tottenham.

Ahead of the contest, it was revealed Ange Postecoglou had the backing of Tottenham and his side repaid the faith in their manager with a statement display against Russell Martin’s side.

Postecoglou had confirmed Lucas Bergvall’s starting place, who was named in the side alongside fellow teenage talent Archie Gray.

Spurs ran riot, putting in their best performance of the season as the Saints’ struggles continued.

Aaron Ramsdale gave an honest verdict of Tottenham’s cracking performance in the first-half.

Ramsdale says Tottenham “came out the blocks really well” against Southampton

Considering he signed for Southampton from Arsenal in the summer, the Englishman would have been distraught witnessing his side get taken apart in the manner they did from start to finish.

However, the 26-year-old gave the visitors credit where it was due.

Speaking to TNT Sports, Ramsdale admitted: “I think they came out the blocks really well. You do have to applaud the Tottenham players and makeshift team. They have taken the game away from us.”

The former Bolton Wanderers goalkeeper was not the only big name within the English game to hail Tottenham’s domineering display, with Peter Crouch doing the same on TNT Sports as well.

“We have to applaud Tottenham’s play. As poor as Southampton have been defensively, some of Tottenham’s play has been brilliant. James Maddison has epitomised that.”

Why Aaron Ramsdale isn’t playing for Southampton

Ahead of the contest, Ramsdale revealed the extent of his finger injury, considering he has been ruled out of Southampton’s last five Premier League games now.

“The finger is getting more bendy so it’s getting there. Yeah, look, I probably was too soon for this game.”

“Looking forward to next week, we’ve obviously got two games, which I’m hoping to be involved in but the main thing is making sure it’s fixed properly and not re-injuring it is the main priority.”

Tottenham gave Alex McCarthy a night to forget as they peppered his goal on numerous instances.

Ange Postecoglou will be hoping that the Lilywhites go on a winning run in their subsequent games.

However, that is easier said than done for a Tottenham side who have been wholly inconsistent all season.
