'What you want to see: Jason Cundy compares Nicolas Jackson to Drogba after one moment in Chelsea vs Brentford

In the past, Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson has played down comparisons to Didier Drogba.

However, there was one moment in Chelsea‘s west London derby against Brentford where Jason Cundy could not help but compare the two.

Nicolas Jackson has been Chelsea’s first-choice striker this season, failing to make an appearance in just one of their Premier League games so far.

Jackson has spoken about the criticism he has received at Chelsea, claiming that he actually likes it, as it is a source of motivation for him.

Jason Cundy on Nicolas Jackson and Didier Drogba

Jackson was unable to score in the first half of Chelsea’s clash with Brentford at Stamford Bridge.

There was one moment, though, when the 23-year-old ran back to get the ball, which was Drogba-esque in the eyes of Cundy.

While commentating on the London derby for Chelsea’s official website (15/12/2024 at 19:18), Cundy said: “That’s what you want to see! I was speaking to a Chelsea fan, a friend of mine today, saying that Didier Drogba chased the ball back in his second season in front of the Matthew Harding Lower.

“And this was something… he chased back and won the tackle and the fans went crazy. You want to see your centre-forward defensively doing good work.”

Jackson was quite upset last weekend after failing to net against Tottenham Hotspur, according to Enzo Maresca. He would have been much happier tonight, though, after getting his name on the scoresheet.

Chelsea could have missed out on Nicolas Jackson

Chelsea signed Jackson from Villarreal last summer for just over £30m. At that price, he has proven to be an absolute bargain.

The Senegal international scored 14 goals in the Premier League last season and has netted nine times this term after bagging against Brentford.

However, Jackson himself has revealed that he could have actually joined another team instead of Chelsea.

In a recent interview, Jackson shared that AC Milan were also interested in him. In the end, though, the former Villarreal man joined Chelsea in a move that has benefitted both parties.

Chelsea have a really talented striker who is delivering for them at the moment, while Jackson is getting to play in the Premier League and is thriving there.

Since being taken over by Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali, Chelsea have made some big-money signings. But Jackson has shown that the Blues can still acquire bargains in this market.
