Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou believes Destiny Udogie has not suffered a serious injury after being forced off against Southampton.

Spurs blew Saints away in the first half, scoring after just 36 seconds, a fourth goal after 25 minutes and were 5-0 up before half-time.

It was only a second win in nine for Spurs, who has been struggling for form and fitness during a crippling injury crisis, and there would have been huge fears when Udogie was forced off before the half-hour mark.

But Postecoglou is hopeful Udogie has escaped serious injury, telling TNT Sports: "He's felt something, but he actually wanted to continue, but we just can't take risks at the moment. We're down to the bare minimum.

"I don't think it's anything too bad."

Djed Spence was handed his first ever start for Spurs, starting at right-back before covering for Udogie on the opposite flank. And Postecoglou was impressed with his performance.

Postecoglou continued: "He's had to bide his time. Whenever he's played, and he hasn't played a lot, he's done well for us. We haven't been able to give him too much game time because, probably, full-backs is the one area we can cover.

"But we need him to come in, and not just play today, but play at a good level, and he did. And it's a credit to his training, the work the coaches do with him, to make him ready and be able to perform all that."
