Ange Postecoglou spoke to the media at St Mary's after **[our 5-0 win against Southampton in the Premier League on Sunday evening.](https://tottenhamhotspur.com/news/2024/december/southampton-v-spurs-december-2024-match-report/)**
Here's what he had to say...
Fast start
----------
_First up, Ange was asked what he made of the performance, particularly our fast start..._
Ange: "Really proud of the players. We obviously had a tough away European fixture on Thursday night. We had 10 first-team players unavailable for a number of reasons today in a squad of 25, and we asked a lot of them to go out there again and dig into their wells of energy. A couple we put out there hadn’t played in ages, haven't started games, so the fact the boys could play with such energy and quality was just outstanding. Really pleased that they get the rewards for it because they deserve it."
Djed and Lucas
--------------
_Ange was asked about Djed Spence and Lucas Bergvall, who made their first starts in the Premier League..._
Ange: "They were great. Lucas is growing all the time, but he's 18. Archie is 18 and how many Premier League clubs are going to start two 18-year-olds in their line-up. Djed has had to bide his time. To be fair, it's the one area of the pitch where we've had cover this year with Archie playing at right-back, so he's had to be patient. It's a testament to him and the coaches who have worked with him in training that he could come on today. We needed him for sure, not just to play but to make an impact and he did. Great reward for his patience and perseverance."
_It was put to Ange, 'you wanted the senior players to stand up, so how pleased are you to see Son and Maddison stand up?'_
Ange: "They were brilliant. I think they sensed they needed to tonight. We are just spread so thin that we’re asking young players and players who haven't played a lot and others who have been playing all the time to go out there and still try to play to our identity, play the football we want to. I thought they both were the catalyst for that tonight, with both the football but also their mindset just going out there. We had to start strong today, we knew we would probably run out of gas at the end of the game considering the line-up we had out there, coming off Europe on Thursday night. I think the players sensed that and credit to them that they started the game in that way."
Destiny Udogie
--------------
_Ange was asked for an update on Destiny Udogie, who was forced off on 28 minutes..._
Ange: "We'll see how he is. He felt a bit tight in his quad. To be fair, he wanted to continue but we can't take any risks at the moment. So we took him off with Sonny. I don't think it's anything significant at this stage and more precautionary."
