Socceroos Abroad: Burgess win, Souttar clean sheet, several Socceroos score

There were several standout performances from our Socceroos abroad over the weekend at both ends of the pitch.

Defenders Cam Burgess and Harry Souttar continued their strong form in England while other Subway Socceroos scored some important goals for their sides.

In the English Premier League, Cam Burgess (cap #633) played a full game for Ipswich Town as they beat Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-1 on Sunday. Burgess demonstrated his defensive qualities once again, winning both his attempted tackles and making three blocks.

In the EFL Championship, Harry Souttar (cap #606) played a full game for Sheffield United, helping them to keep yet another clean sheet in their 2-0 win over Plymouth Argyle. United moved three points clear at the top of the English second tier following Leeds’ 1-1 draw with Preston North End over the weekend.

Apostolos Stamatelopoulos (cap #644) put in a sensational showing in his 82 minutes for Motherwell in their 4-3 win over Dundee United in the Scottish Premiership. The striker scored twice in the first half before assisting his side’s fourth goal in the 67th minute. Ryan Strain (cap #624) picked up an assist in his full game for Dundee.

Jordan Bos (cap #632) scored Westerlo’s only goal as they lost 3-1 to Union St. Gilloise in Beglium’s First Division A on Monday. The full-back operated in a more advanced position, playing the full game on the wing.

Fran Karacic (cap #607) scored NK Lokomotiva’s second in a stunning 3-1 win over title-chasing Dynamo Zagreb in Croatia’s HNL. The goal was Karacic’s second of the season as his side moved a point clear of the relegation place.

In the Indian Super League, Jamie Maclaren (cap #584) and Dimitri Petratos (cap #593) played full games for Mohun Bagan SG as they beat Kerala Blasters 3-2 on Sunday morning. Maclaren opened the scoring for the side while Petratos assisted Jason Cummings’ (cap #626) goal, who came on in the 80th minute for Mohun.

Ryan McGowan (cap #546) helped Livingston keep a clean sheet in their 2-0 win over Patrick Thistle in the Scottish Championship on Saturday morning. Livingston sit in second, five points behind leaders Falkirk after 16 games.

Denis Genreau (cap #610) made his return to the Toulouse team, coming on in the 90th minute of the side’s 2-1 win over Saint-Etienne on Saturday morning in Ligue 1.

In Eredivisie, recent Socceroos call-up Max Balard played a full game for NAC Breda as they lost 2-1 to AZ Alkmaar on Monday.

Callum Elder (cap #614) was subbed on in the 66th minute of Derby County’s 4-0 smashing of Portsmouth on Saturday morning in the EFL Championship.

Alexander Robertson (cap #630) came on in the 89th minute of Cardiff City’s 2-2 draw with Stoke City on Sunday in the EFL Championship. City were leading deep into stoppage time, however, a 95th-minute equaliser saw the points shared.

In the Scottish Premiership, Josh Nisbet (cap #642) played 75 minutes for Ross County as they lost 3-1 to Hibernian on Sunday. Martin Boyle (cap #599) was subbed on in the 80th minute for Hibs.

Elsewhere in the competition, Kye Rowles (cap #622) and Cameron Devlin (cap #625) played full games in Hearts’ 1-0 loss to Kilmarnock on Monday.

Maty Ryan (cap #555) was on the bench for AS Roma's 2-0 loss to Como in Serie A on Monday.

Ajdin Hrustic (cap #589) came on in the 63rd for Salernitana in their 2-1 loss to Juve Stabia on Monday in Serie B.

In Belgium’s First Division A, **Aiden O’Neill (**cap #629) played a full game for Standard Liege as they drew 0-0 with Beerschot on Sunday.

In the Bundesliga, Jackson Irvine (#568) played all of St. Pauli’s 2-0 loss to Werder Bremen on Sunday morning.

In EFL League One, Gethin Jones (cap #639) played a full game for Bolton Wanderers as they lost 2-0 to Wigan Athletic on Saturday night.

Also in the competition, Keanu Baccus (cap #628) played 56 minutes for Mansfield Town in their 0-0 draw with Charlton Athletic on Sunday morning.

Jason Davidson (cap #545) played all of Panserraikos’ 1-0 loss to Aris Thessaloniki on Monday in the Greek Super League.

Kenny Dougall (cap #608) played a full game for Buriram United in their 5-1 win over Nakhon Ratchasima on Saturday night in Thai League. United remain unbeaten at the top of the competition.

Subway Olyroos

Nectarios Triantis played all of Hibernian’s 3-1 win over Ross County in the Scottish Premiership on Sunday morning. Triantis was a dominant force in the midfield for Hibs, winning five of his seven tackle attempts and making six clearances.
