Marc Cucurella breaks silence after Chelsea red card vs Brentford

Marc Cucurella has broken his silence after he was shown a red card after the full-time whistle following Chelsea's win over Brentford.

The defender was shown a second yellow card after the Blues' 2-1 win over the Bees on Sunday. The Spaniard had earlier put his side ahead with a perfectly placed header in the first half.

It means the former Brighton & Hove Albion man will be missing for Chelsea's next league match, which is away at Everton next Sunday. The left-back has been one of Chelsea's better players this season and will be a big miss down the left hand side, with the 2-1 win over Brentford leaving the Blues just two points off leaders Liverpool.

Taking to social media after the game, Cucurella posted a 12-word message on Instagram. Posting a picture of himself celebrating his goal, Cucurella said: "Good win at home to finish off the week! We go again."

The red card means Cucurella will next be in action in the league on Boxing Day against Fulham. Maresca was asked about the sending off after the game although the Italian did not appear to see the incident.

"When the final whistle [was blown], I was with coaching staff, hugging them and celebrating so I did not see nothing. I don't know," Maresca said.

The Italian added: "Cucurella was top on the ball and off the ball, together with the other 10, they were fantastic. We are happy and delighted with Marc's performance tonight."

Asked if Chelsea have a discipline problem, Maresca said: "No, no. I've said many times we can do many things better; the way we attack and the way we defend but also the way we need to manage some moments. This is probably one of the moments we can improve but overall, with the spirit of the team, we know that sometimes you can receive some yellow cards.

"Probably the second one is not the correct one, or the correct thing to do, but there are things that we need to improve."
