Chelsea are said to have made two players available ahead of the January transfer window.
Chelsea are said to be ready to sell two players who have struggled for game time so far this season. The Blues offloaded a number of players in the summer while also adding to their squad to set up a superb first half of the season.
Enzo Maresca’s men have forced themselves into the title race heading into the festive fixtures, enjoying a superb start to life under the Italian. Maresca took a ruthless approach to shaping his squad in the summer, quickly designating a whole host of players for departure.
Though, there were some players who stayed put in a bid to secure a spot in the starting XI, of which Carney Chukwuemeka was one. The former Aston Villa midfielder has not played a single game in the Premier League, though, with four of his five appearances coming in the Conference League, with many of the first team stars not yet registered.
According to The Mirror, Chukwuemeka will now be designated for departure in the January transfer window having failed to convince Maresca, but he is not the only one. Chelsea spent £30million to sign Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall from Leicester City in the summer, but the midfielder does not look to be of the right quality to play regularly for the club.
As a result, he has played just five times in the Premier League, and he is yet to start in the competition. In a quick change of heart for Maresca, it’s reported that Dewsbury-Hall will also be made available in January. Loans could be more likely at this stage, but it’s unclear what Chelsea will ask for in the way of fees in the case of permanent deals having spent £20million on Chukwuemeka and £30million on Dewsbury-Hall.
“Kiernan was, at Leicester, the most important player,” Maresca said of Dewsbury-Hall’s Chelsea transition. “He moved to Chelsea to be one other player. You have to accept that. Probably at the beginning, you struggle to accept that. Now it’s getting better. Me as a manager, I am very happy with Kiernan, no doubt. But for sure for him, he has to continue to work, wait for the chance and take it, in the way he is doing in the Conference League. He is doing OK.”
