Our Under-21s will close out 2024 with a home clash against Sunderland on Monday, December 16, at Meadow Park. Kick-off is scheduled for 7pm (UK time).
Currently sitting seventh in the table with 16 points, we’ll be aiming to finish the year on a high. In our last outing, a late equaliser denied us victory against Brighton after Khayon Edwards had given us the lead.
The Opposition
--------------
Sunderland, sitting in 13th place, have had a solid season so far, recording four wins, four losses, and one draw from their first nine matches. Most recently, they fell 3-2 to league leaders Manchester City, a game in which they led twice. Before that, they delivered an emphatic 5-2 win over Manchester United, showcasing their attacking threat.
Last season, Sunderland impressed with a seventh-place finish before embarking on a remarkable play-off run, defeating Wolves, West Ham United, and Reading to reach the Premier League 2 Final, where they eventually lost 3-1 to Tottenham Hotspur.
Interestingly, we also faced Sunderland in our final game of 2023, and it’s fitting we meet them again to round off 2024. In that fixture, Khayon Edwards’ brace saw us come from behind to secure a 2-1 victory.
We’ll be looking to replicate that success and end the year on a positive note.
