Chelsea left-back Marc Cucurella shared a message on social media following his red card against Brentford. The two sides locked horns at Stamford Bridge on Sunday (December 15) in the Premier League, with the home team winning 2-1.
The Spanish left-back sent the Blues ahead in the 43rd minute before Nicolas Jackson doubled the lead 10 minutes from time. Bryan Mbeumo pulled one back for the visitors in the 90th minute but Chelsea held on to pick up three points.
Referee Peter Bankes showed Cucurella his second yellow after the full-time whistle, following a scuffle with Brentford’s Kevin Schade. The Spaniard had already picked up a yellow for a foul during second-half injury time.
The player made no mention of the incident as he shared a message on social media after the win.
"Good win at home to finish off the week! We go again," Cucurella wrote on X.
Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) have since revealed that the 26-year-old was booked due to aggressive behavior. Schade also received a yellow card for the same offense.
Despite the incident at the end of the game, the Blues will have every reason to feel upbeat. The London giants have been in superb form under Enzo Maresca of late and have now won their last five games in the Premier League. Chelsea are second in the league table after 16 games, two points behind Liverpool, who have played a game less.

Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca was quizzed on the Marc Cucurella red card after the game. However, the Italian insisted that he had missed the incident.
"When the final whistle [was blown], I was with coaching staff, hugging them and celebrating so I did not see nothing. I don't know. Cucurella was top on the ball and off the ball, together with the other 10, they were fantastic. We are happy and delighted with Marc's performance tonight," Maresca said (via football.london).
The Spaniard will now serve a one-game ban and won't be available for the game against Everton in the Premier League on Sunday (December 22). The former Brighton man was linked with an exit from Stamford Bridge last year but has since wrestled his way back into the team.
He has been in superb form under Maresca, registering one goal and one assist from 17 games across competitions. His contract with Chelsea runs until 2028.
