How Enzo Maresca reacted to Nicolas Jackson's goal in Chelsea's 2-1 win against Brentford - journalist

Nicolas Jackson’s goal in Chelsea’s 2-1 win against Brentford on Sunday was a big one.

It put Chelsea 2-0 up in a tight game and ultimately proved to be the winner after Bryan Mbeumo managed to pull one back for Brentford in the 90th minute.

In the Blues’ previous Premier League fixture, a 4-3 victory over Tottenham Hotspur, Nicolas Jackson failed to score. According to Enzo Maresca, Jackson was not happy after that match, having failed to find the back of the net.

However, he has reason to be happy now after registering his ninth strike of the season, while Maresca also looked delighted after watching his forward dispatch.

Enzo Maresca enjoyed Nicolas Jackson goal

Jackson’s goal would have come as a relief to Maresca, whose side were only 1-0 up at the time against a very dangerous Brentford team.

Unsurprisingly, then, he could not help but go wild after the 23-year-old slotted past Mark Flekken.

The Chelsea manager was seen jumping on the touchline in celebration by journalist Simon Johnson following Jackson’s goal.

Jackson missed a great chance to put Chelsea 2-0 up earlier, which would have frustrated Maresca. But the Senegal international did not make the same mistake second time around.

Has Enzo Maresca changed his mind about the title race?

Before Chelsea’s latest win, Maresca had denied that Chelsea were in this season’s title race on multiple occasions.

However, following their victory over Brentford, they are now just two points behind league leaders Liverpool.

Yet Maresca still believes that his side have no chance of challenging for the Premier League crown this term.

Speaking to BBC Sport and the rest of the English media after the game, he said: “It’s not about how many games we win. It’s about being realistic. There are things we have to do better. That’s why I said for me we are not ready.”

With Chelsea playing before Liverpool this weekend, Maresca’s men actually have the chance to go top for a few hours. Finish the day there, and Maresca will probably not be able to deny Chelsea’s involvement in the title race any longer.
