Sunderland midfielder Chris Rigg is a reported Newcastle United, Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund target.

Newcastle United must reportedly stump up £25million to snatch Chris Rigg from Sunderland in January.

Various sources claim the Magpies are interested in the midfielder who, at just 17, has already made nearly 70 appearances for the Black Cats. Rigg has represented England at every level up to under-18s and is regarded as Sunderland’s best academy product since Jordan Henderson.

Newcastle are understood to be monitoring Rigg’s situation and, given his family support the club, hold an ace up their sleeve. Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund have also been linked with the prodigy.

Sunderland sporting director Kristjaan Speakman revealed in October that speculation will always surround Rigg, whose future may depend on the outcome of their promotion charge. He said: “(I am) really, really pleased for him because he's such a good kid.

Spanish outlet Fichajes claim the Black Cats have slapped a £25million price tag on their asset. This would be a significant outlay for Newcastle given the concerns regarding FFP/PSR.

Man United are thought to be the front-runners as they prepare for a January rebuild under Ruben Amorim. Rigg is contracted until 2027 after penning a bumper extension in the summer.
