Brentford manager Thomas Frank has criticised Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella, in light of their 2-1 defeat at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
The Blues moved to within two points of league leaders Liverpool, as Enzo Maresca's side continue to stun their rivals in the Premier League title race, however the match was marred by a post-match red card for the Spaniard.
Cucurella headed Chelsea in front on the stroke of half-time from Noni Madueke's delivery and in the dying embers, Nicolas Jackson netted his ninth goal of the season to double their lead. Bryan Mbuemo's stoppage time strike reduced the deficit making for a nervy conclusion but the hosts held on to apply pressure on Liverpool.
The drama continued up until the final moments as the full-back was involved in an altercation with Brentford's Kevin Schade. With the Bees looking for an equaliser late on, the 26-year-old went to ground after an encounter with the German but his angry reaction spilled after the full-time whistle which saw Cucurella handed a second yellow card.
The Brentford boss pointed out the gamesmanship from the Spain international, speaking post-match, he said: "I think Cucurella is a top player, he is doing well.
"But I don't like it when players go to the ground and hold their face [incident in stoppage time]. I will say to Cucurella because I respect him massively."
Following the full-time whistle, the Premier League released a statement which read: "The referee issued a second yellow card to Cucurella for adopting an aggressive attitude. Schade was also booked for the same offence."
He will now miss next weekend's meeting with Everton in the Premier League at Goodison Park. Maresca added on the matter: "I didn't see the second yellow card. The referee said the second yellow card was for bad attitude. There are things we can do better."
