Pep Guardiola tells brutal Man City 'truth' ahead of Aston Villa

Pep Guardiola, manager of Manchester City, consoles Matheus Nunes of Manchester City after the Premier League match between Manchester City and Manchester United

Pep Guardiola consoles Mathues Nunes after Manchester City's late loss to Manchester United

Pep Guardiola says he needs to do better as he took responsibility for Manchester City's horrible run of form.

City looked to be ending their wretched stretch of seven defeats in ten games as they led Manchester United 1-0 in the 88th minute. However, another inexplicable collapse saw them lose 2-1 to Ruben Amorim's team to pile on the pain.

Mistakes from Matheus Nunes led to the equaliser via a Bruno Fernandes penalty, while nobody covered themselves in glory for the winner. However, as Bernardo Silva slammed his teammates for performing 'like an Under-15s team' the manager said that when there are so many errors costing the team there is nowhere else to look but in his direction.

"It's not about this situation. It happened many times," he said. "I don't have a defence. I'm the boss, I'm the manager and I don't find the solution.

"This is a big club and in a big club, when you lose eight in 11 something wrong is happening. I can say the schedule is tough, injuries to players - but no: 3-0 against Feyenoord and we lose the game. Is it injuries or the schedule? No. We have to win that game. Today, we have to win that game.

"I'm the boss, I'm the manager and I'm not good enough. It's as simple as that. I have to find a way to talk to them about the way we have to play and press and build up and I'm not good enough.

"I'm not doing well. That is the truth because if it's always the same problem you can fix but it's not. Matheus made an incredible effort playing left back really good with and without but it's happened, it's football and move forward."

Aston Villa host City at Villa Park in the Premier League on Saturday.
