Report: Leicester star provides honest verdict on Newcastle defeat

James Justin didn’t hold back in his assessment of Leicester City’s performance as they were beaten 4-0 by Newcastle United on Saturday.

Leicester were hammered in the north east in what was arguably their worst display of the season to leave them 17th and two points clear of the bottom three.

The Foxes continued their worrying trend of conceding in the first half of games and to make matters worse, may be without Mads Hermansen, who suffered a groin injury.

Justin played the full 90 minutes at St James’ Park and endured a difficult afternoon as Anthony Gordon got the better of him from minute one.

He wasn’t the only one off his game, with Oliver Skipp and Hamza Choudhury’s performances proving just how much of a miss Boubakary Soumare was.

Speaking to the club website after the game, Justin admitted that the Foxes were second best.

He said: “I just feel like we were off it all over the pitch. Me individually and as a team, we just weren’t at the level today and we got punished in quick succession in the second half.

“We have to look in the mirror and try to bounce back. I feel like the manager gave us a good structure to play from and we didn’t execute it as well as we can.

“We have to look to get into our structure earlier, be calm on the ball and be slow in possession to keep the crowd down as much as possible.

“As soon as the crowd gets rocking here it’s a difficult place to play when they’re pressing you.”

James Justin stats vs Newcastle

There has been a lot of criticism from Leicester fans towards Justin this season.

Under Steve Cooper, the right hand side of the back four, which featured Justin and Wout Faes, came under fire after a large proportion of goals the Foxes conceded were coming from that side.

Against Newcastle, it was another uninspiring display that saw him earn a lowly 6.5 rating and the number of times the full-back lost the ball was only beaten by Victor Kristiansen, who lost possession six times.
