Plenty Newcastle United stars love the darts, as the 2025 World Darts Championship kicked off on Sunday night.
Defending champion Luke Humphries headlined night one, as he kicked off the defence of his crown with a 3-0 win over Thibault Tricole in front of a raucous Alexandra Palace crowd.
The darts has been packing out venues up and down the country for years, and now the PDC begin their annual residency at Ally Pally.
Earlier in the year, the Premier League darts visited Newcastle, with major stars like Humphries, Luke Littler and Michael van Gerwen competing at the Utilita Arena. They even played in front of some of the Newcastle United first-team, with the likes of Dan Burn, Sean Longstaff and Harvey Barnes in attendance.
However, there was no appearance from the Newcastle United manager, as history would suggest that Eddie Howe is perhaps not a massive fan of the darts.

With the 2025 World Darts Championship now underway, a hilarious clip of Eddie Howe has been doing the rounds again on X (formally known as Twitter).
The 47-year-old appeared on Monday Night Football in November 2020 alongside Jamie Carragher and Dave Jones, as Sky Sports took the chance to film some promotional content for the looming 2021 World Darts Championship.

Carragher and Jones could be seen singing Chase The Sun by Planet Funk, which is the song that Sky Sports famously use for their darts coverage.
In the video, Carragher tries to encourage Howe to get involved too – and he obliges. However, he looks incredibly uncomfortable, as if he was just dragged up to dance at a wedding.
It is agonisingly cringey. Carragher and Jones are not singing in time, while Howe awkwardly claps along.
Newcastle United fans are competing in the World Darts Championship
While Howe probably does not have tickets to go watch the darts at Ally Pally over the festive period, a couple of Geordies will be involved in the competition.
Callan Rydz is in first round action against Romeo Grbavac on Thursday December 19th, and will face Martin Schindler on Sunday if he is able to advance to round two.
Meanwhile, Chris Dobey enters the tournament on Saturday December 21st. Dobey, who is ranked 15 in the world, will compete in the second round against either Stephen Burton or Alexander Merkx.
Unfortunately for Dobey, he could be playing on the Alexandra Palace stage while his beloved Magpies face Ipswich Town at Portman Road.
