Report: Ruben Amorim's two-word verdict on Leicester boss after Man United win

Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim singled out Ruud van Nistelrooy for his work at the club following their win against Manchester City.

Man United came from a goal down to win 2-1 at the Etihad Stadium, with a last-minute winner from Amad Diallo enough to take the three points back to Old Trafford.

Amorim was asked about Diallo’s excellent display but refused to take all of the credit and mentioned the current Leicester boss as having a key role.

Ruben Amorim credits Ruud van Nistelrooy for Amad Diallo winner

Diallo is one of United’s most exciting young talents and his derby day winner could be a huge turning point in their season.

The 22-year-old looks to have a bright future ahead of him and Amorim believes that is down to the work done by Erik ten Hag and Van NIstelrooy.

He said: “I don’t want to talk about just Amad. A lot of players here are improving, are fighting, are working really hard, are suffering.

“That is a good thing when you suffer for something. Amad, of course, is in a great moment but I will say it again, Erik (ten Hag) brought Amad to the first team, Ruud (van Nistelrooy) did a great job and we continue with the good moment of Amad.”

There was no hard feelings between the two and the Dutchman revealed the two had spoken before his departure was confirmed.

He said: “I spoke to Ruben Amorim, man to man, manager to manager, and that helped me a lot to move on forward and start discussions with new possibilities straight away.”

Van Nistelrooy and Amorim will have to wait until March for when they first meet on the touchline.
