‘I don’t like’: Thomas Frank gives verdict on Marc Cucurella after goal and red card in Chelsea vs Brentford

All of the talk as far as Chelsea are concerned following their 2-1 win over Brentford last night seemed to revolve around one player in particular.

Marc Cucurella scored his first Premier League goal for the Blues to open the scoring in the West London derby, however the drama surrounding him did not end with the final whistle.

The Spaniard was sent off following an altercation with a number of Brentford players, with Enzo Maresca saying the referee told him Cucurella was showing a ‘bad attitude’.

Thomas Frank not impressed by Marc Cucurella’s actions

Cole Palmer and Jadon Sancho had no interest in getting involved in the scrap, with them feeling as if the job was done on the pitch.

Stuart Pearce was full of praise for Cucurella after his performance, however not everyone was so impressed by the left-back.

Thomas Frank said after the game that while he was full of praise for the defender’s abilities, he did not like his antics that referred to him winning Chelsea a free-kick late on.

He said to Football London: “I think Cucurella is a top player, he is doing well. But I don’t like it when players go to the ground and holding their face [incident in stoppage time]. I will say to Cucurella because I respect him massively.”

This means he will be absent for the upcoming Premier League game against Everton, leaving Maresca a decision to make when it comes to picking his defensive line.

The most likely scenario is that Renato Veiga is brought into the starting side, with him set for his biggest game since joining the club at the start of the season.
