Extended Highlights: Everton 2-1 City

The best of the action from our slender defeat to Everton in the Barclays Women's Super League.

A depleted City side were edged out on Merseyside in our final domestic fixture of 2024.

The Blues came into the tie on the back of three matches in the space of seven days and with several key players missing through injury.

And Everton took advantage by opening scoring after 30 minutes when Lucy Hope headed home past the despairing dive of Khiara Keating.

The hosts would grab their second soon after when Honoka Hayashi’s deflected effort found the bottom corner, with the hosts also going close through Toni Payne and Katja Snoeijs before the break.

Taylor’s side were inches from halving the deficit in a frustrating opening 45 though, with Alanna Kennedy‘s effort from a corner scrambled away on the line.

City responded in the second half and would pile pressure on the Everton goal, but it took until the 89th minutes for us to finally breach the hosts’ stubborn rearguard.

It came from Mary Fowler, who rifled home from the penalty spot after Yui Hasegawa was brought down inside the area, but it was too little too late for City, despite our best efforts.
