Leeds United must be on red alert as Chelsea make £19m gem available for Championship loan spell in January - opinion

Leeds United are looking increasingly likely to enter the January transfer window with a number of new players being linked with a move to Elland Road – and a Chelsea player has just become available.

Leeds are well-stocked out wide but lack competition for Brenden Aaronson in the no.10 role, with the USA star struggling to provide consistency despite starting week in, week out for Daniel Farke’s outfit.

Graham Smyth expects Leeds to move for a no.10 in January and Aaronson needs a rival to perhaps, get the best out of the former Salzburg man. Chelsea could now have the perfect answer for Farke and Leeds.

Chelsea make £19m man available and Leeds simply have to move

Back in the summer, Aston Villa made the surprise sale of Omari Kellyman to Stamford Bridge for a £19m fee. The England U19 international had scored 11 goals in 26 games for Aston Villa’s Under-21 side.

He also played six times for Villa’s first team, but Kellyman is yet to play for Chelsea’s senior side. Now, Give Me Sport say Chelsea are set to loan Kellyman out and prefer to let him join a Champioinship club.

Indeed, Kellyman wants to follow Alfie Gilchrist’s example. The defender is impressing at Sheffield United this season in defence and Kellyman wants to show what he can do with a top side in the Championship.

Kellyman is unproven, but might be best of the available rest

In the summer, Angus Kinnear said Leeds looked at James McAtee and Fabio Carvalho. Kinnear also said Leeds were rejected by Emi Buendia, super players with Premier League pedigree, out of Leeds’ league.

Kellyman has that potential to reach that level but the youngster is yet to show it. Of course, signing him is a risk compared to McAtee, Carvalho and Buendia but it is difficult to sign that level of player.

Chelsea’s star Kellyman is readily available and literally wants to join one of the second-tier’s top sides. He has the potential to be just as good as McAtee, Carvalho or Buendia but right now, remains untried.
