Joe Cole Makes“Manager Of The Season”Claim After Maresca’s Chelsea Close Gap On Liverpool

Chelsea earnt their seventh win in a row on Sunday night as they climbed to just two points behind Liverpool.

The Blues beat Brentford 2-1 at Stamford Bridge after goals came from Marc Cucurella and Nicolas Jackson, before Bryan Mbuemo scored a consolation in the 90th minute.

Enzo Maresca‘s side are now two points behind Liverpool and fully embroiled in the Premier League title race, despite the manager denying his side’s chance to win the league.

Former Chelsea player Joe Cole believes that Maresca has been the best manager in the league so far this season, based on where the Blues were last year.

He said on TNT Sports after the game: “It’s looking great! I think Enzo Maresca’s so far manager of the season. What he had to contend with at the start. We were talking to him, remember at West Ham, and he was like talking about the 30-odd players he’s got and trying to manage the squad.

“A lot of question marks on the recruitment and since maybe sort of late September, it’s just been an upward curve.”

The win against Brentford has put Chelsea in a fantastic position in the league as they look forward to a trip to Goodison Park to play against an Everton side who just held Arsenal to a 0-0 draw.

Chelsea dominate in Premier League statistic

The Blues have been excellent both attacking and defensively this season, especially compared to last year.

However, they have stood out in pure goal scoring ability as Chelsea have scored more goals than any other side in the league this season, by a sizable margin too.

Chelsea have scored 37 goals in 16 games which averages at 2.3 goals per game which is six more than Liverpool and eight more than rivals Arsenal.

If they can continue their strong scoring form, there is no reason why Enzo Maresca’s side can’t challenge for the title this season.
