The January transfer window is right around the corner and Premier League clubs are finalising their shortlists and are getting ready to prepare bids for their targets. Newcastle United are in for a very interesting first month of 2025.

Eddie Howe's side have to be shrewd when it comes to the transfer window as profit and sustainability rules (PSR) could play havoc on any potential incomings.

January can be a notoriously difficult month to strike deals in as clubs look to keep players as well as add to their own squads. Despite this, the Magpies have been linked with numerous players as they look to not only add to squad depth but also add to the quality in the starting XI.

ChronicleLive take a look at the players that Eddie Howe and Newcastle have been linked with since the end of the summer transfer window:

Marc Guehi

Guehi is someone that Newcastle have been after for some time, including in the summer transfer window. Multiple bids were made before the start of the season, but Crystal Palace rejected all of them.

With Howe still on the hunt for a centre-back, it is likely that Guehi will still be high on the list for January. The England defender still has not signed a contract with his deal up in the summer of 2026.

Joe Gomez

Gomez almost joined the Magpies in the summer, with a deal worth £45 million accepted. However, the transfer, which also would have seen Anthony Gordon go the other way, was withdrawn by Newcastle.

The defender has struggled for game time since Arne Slot joined the club. Gomez has recently deputised for the injured Ibrahima Konate, but could still look for an exit from Anfield in January.

Norman Bassette

The Coventry City striker has drawn the interest of Newcastle as they look to add to their striking department. New manager Frank Lampard has hailed Bassette's 'speed, desire, pressing and finishing'.

He only joined the Championship side in January and has one goal in 12 appearances. Scouts watched the Belgian in Coventry's Championship fixtures against Sunderland and Middlesbrough in November.

Kevin Zenon

Newcastle are in 'pole position to land the Boca Juniors midfielder. He has played 45 times this term, scoring six goals and bagging seven assists.

Zenon can play across the majority of midfield and has captured the continued attention of the Magpies. Inter Milan, Tottenham Hotspur and Lyon are also interested with the Argentine having a release clause of £14 million.

Bryan Mbeumo

Mbeumo has been in-form this season and has got nine goals in 17 games. He scored and assisted in Brentford's 4-2 victory over Newcastle in December.

The Magpies are interested in the attacker, who would add some quality to Howe's side. However, Brentford would be looking for about £60 million to let go of their star player.

Chris Rigg

Sunderland's teenage starlet is a player that is attracting the interest of a lot of clubs. Newcastle, Liverpool, Real Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, Manchester City and Manchester United could all have to fight it out to sign the midfielder.

Rigg has had a breakthrough season at the Stadium of Light, scoring three times in 20 appearances. A hefty fee will be required to lure the 17-year-old away from Sunderland.

Johan Bakayoko

Newcastle have been linked with PSV winger Johan Bakayoko. The 21-year-old has been of interest to the Magpies for the last couple of seasons and that doesn't look like changing soon.

The Dutch side are asking for around £37 million to secure the services of the Belgium international. Fellow Premier League side Liverpool are also heavily linked with the player.

Mykhailo Mudryk

The Chelsea winger could be looking for a way out of Stamford Bridge in January. Newcastle could be a possible destination for the player, with a potential loan move on the cards.

Mudryk has only started once in the Premier League this season and is in search of some more playing time. Crystal Palace and Barcelona are also interested in striking a deal for the Ukranian.

Nico Williams

Newcastle could have to battle it out with Liverpool and several other sides to gain the services of Athletic Bilbao's Williams. The winger is a target for the summer of 2025.

However, if the right circumstances are presented, then a deal for the Euro 2024 winner could be in the pipeline. Williams has a release clause of around of £46 million and is open to a move to the Premier League.

Evan Ferguson

In January, Ferguson could leave Brighton & Hove Albion on loan with Newcastle being interested. West Ham are also said to be keen on the Irishman.

The 20-year-old has struggled for goals and playing times at Brighton this campaign. With Callum Wilson's recent injury setback, a deal could be beneficial for the Magpies.

Antoine Semenyo

Newcastle are keen on signing AFC Bournemouth attacker Antoine Semenyo. Howe's old club could ask for around £60 million for the Ghanaian.

There has been no contract between the two clubs as we near the transfer window. The Magpies could be forced to sell players before submitting a bid.

Viktor Gyokeres

Sporting Lisbon's Gyokeres is currently one of the most coveted players in the world at this moment. Arsenal, Manchester United and Manchester City are just some of the clubs, alongside Newcastle, that are interested in the striker's services.

The 26-year-old is reportedly 'very open' in a move to Newcastle United because of the club's ambition. The Sweden international is valued at around £65 million.

Fikayo Tomori

Tomori could be set for a January move away from AC Milan. The former Chelsea defender has seen a reduction in game time this season, playing just 100 minutes since the start of October.

The Italian side are demanding a fee 'in excess £40 million' to secure the services of the central defender. Along with the Magpies, Juventus, Aston Villa and West Ham are also keen on Tomori.

Abdukodir Khusanov

Newcastle are after the services of Lens centre-back Khusanov, with scouts travelling to France to watch the player in action. The 20-year-old is versatile as he can also play as a defensive midfielder.

Howe's side could be coming up against French champions PSG for his signature. A fee around £25 million could see a deal completed.
