Sheffield Wednesday starlet Pierce Charles is on Aston Villa’s radar while EFL clubs size up potential loan deals, as per The Star.
Sheffield Wednesday are gearing up for an important January transfer window.
The Owls might have been busy in the summer, but some smart business this winter could be the difference between a mid-table finish and a push to sneak into the play-offs over the second half of the season.

The former would still show stark progress on last season, but the feeling is this season that the Championship top six spots are really up for grabs. And, at their best Danny Rohl’s side look capable of challenging for a place.
However, winter business will be key, and one Sheffield Wednesday ace attracting persisting transfer interest is goalkeeper prospect Pierce Charles.
The 19-year-old has been viewed as a top talent for a while and reports had said he had unnamed Premier League admirers, but The Star now states Aston Villa have him on the radar. While they’re not plotting an instant move, he’s an admired prospect at Villa Park.
There are also EFL clubs interested if the door opens for the Northern Irishman to head out on loan. A regular starting role is viewed as the next step in his accelerating development.
Holding onto Charles
Charles is already a big asset for Sheffield Wednesday to have on the books and if Premier League sides such as Aston Villa are showing interest, his stock is only going to grow further.

However, as a 19-year-old with exciting potential, the Owls will be hoping to oversee more of his development so he can grow into an even bigger asset for them.

If he can become an established first-team player out on loan before perhaps replacing loan man James Beadle as the number one next season, Charles’ value will have grown significant.
There’s a lot of ifs involved in that, but it may be the dream scenario for the Owls. As such, they should be focused on clarifying their plans to him and setting out the path for his development to persuade him to stay put in case concrete interest arises.

Before 2024 ends…
Sheffield Wednesday have made big strides forward under Danny Rohl over the course of 2024 and they’ll be out to maintain their upward trajectory heading into the New Year.
However, before 2025 can get underway, the Owls have a few more Championship games to see to.
This weekend, Wednesday host a struggling Stoke City at Hillsborough, offering a good chance to pick up a valuable three points. The year then ends with back-to-back away matches, first against Middlesbrough on Boxing Day before heading to Deepdale to face Preston North End in the final game of 2024.
The New Year then begins with a home tie against Derby County.
