Arsenal are reportedly targeting Belgian international Maxim de Cuyper as they aim to strengthen their squad in the January transfer window. The Gunners, currently third in the Premier League, trail leaders Liverpool by six points after recent draws against Fulham and Everton.
As Arsenal seek to reignite their title challenge, they face stiff competition for the 22-year-old Club Brugge defender, with Manchester City also showing interest. According toTBR Football, both clubs are actively working on a potential deal for the versatile left-back.
De Cuyper, who has already earned six senior caps for Belgium, has been a standout performer this season. In 24 appearances across all competitions, he has scored once and provided four assists, showcasing his attacking and defensive prowess.

While primarily a left-back, he is equally capable of playing as a left midfielder or winger, offering tactical flexibility that could be invaluable to Arsenal.

The left-back position has been an area of concern for Mikel Arteta’s side. De Cuyper’s energetic runs and ability to support the attack could complement Gabriel Martinelli, giving the Brazilian more freedom to operate in advanced positions.

“Anyone who has seen De Cuyper play will know that he loves to marshal the flank and provide overlapping support to the winger,” noted a source close to the club. “He could be a game-changer for Arsenal’s attacking dynamics.”
While De Cuyper’s talent is evident, questions remain about his ability to adapt to the Premier League, widely regarded as one of the most demanding leagues in the world. Nevertheless, Arsenal’s proactive interest suggests a willingness to shake up their approach as they push to compete on all fronts.
