Leicester City injury latest for Wolves clash with duo set to return and goalkeeper progress

Leicester City could have two midfielders back in contention for their huge head-to-head with relegation rivals Wolves this weekend.

Boubakary Soumare and Wilfred Ndidi had established themselves as Ruud van Nistelrooy’s first-choice duo deep in midfield, but neither were available for the 4-0 thrashing by Newcastle. However, Soumare, suspended for the trip to St James’ Park, will be back to take on Wolves.

Ndidi’s hamstring injury was due to keep him out for a couple of weeks and a return as soon as this Sunday would be a surprise. However, Harry Winks, who has not yet featured under van Nistelrooy after sustaining a groin injury in the final game under Steve Cooper, could be available again.

Winks returned to team training for the first time at the end of last week after a period doing individual work. With one full week alongside his team-mates, he should be ready to play at the weekend.

The big concern at the moment is Mads Hermansen’s groin injury. The number one was substituted at half-time on Saturday after telling van Nistelrooy he couldn’t continue. There’s no word yet on the severity of the injury and so there’s no confirmation yet that he would be unavailable against Wolves.

If he is out, then Danny Ward would be favourite to take over. He is ahead of Daniel Iversen in the pecking order at the moment. The question that remains is where Jakub Stolarczyk fits in.

Last season, the Pole was Hermansen’s deputy, but he’s not had a chance to play this term after breaking his foot in the summer. However, he is making progress and was back in team training last week. He does not appear to be too far away from a return. He still didn’t travel to Newcastle though, with Iversen the third-choice keeper for the trip to the north east in case of any injuries in the build-up.

Meanwhile, City are back to having four players on a suspension tightrope. Oliver Skipp picked up his fourth yellow card of the season on Saturday, and so joins Ndidi, Jamie Vardy and Jordan Ayew in being one booking away from a one-match ban. The slate is wiped clean at the halfway point of the season, which comes after the next three matches.
