Pep Guardiola has admitted he might be sacked by Manchester City - a situation that would have ramifications at Newcastle United.

A shock 2-1 defeat to Manchester United left the champions sitting fifth - with one win from 11 games. City were leading until the 88th minute when Bruno Fernandes and Amad Diallo struck at the death.

Guardiola’s men blew the chance to close the gap on Liverpool to six points against their bitter rivals. The loss came just days after Man City published record revenues (£713million), including a staggering £139million transfer profit.

Such huge figures have led many to suggest City will spend big in January to save their season. One reported target is Newcastle captain Guimaraes given Rodri’s long-term ACL injury.

It is no secret that Guardiola likes the Brazilian, with the Man City boss going public earlier this year. However, their shortlist could change should the 53-year-old sensationally face the chop.

"(The owners) know when the situation is bad and we start to lose games, then it is not sustainable,” he said. “Then I would not be here next month or in the next two months. The results dictate that and this is the reality.

“We cannot eternally lose games. Maybe because of what we have done in the past (I won’t be sacked) but we are judged daily as managers. In one bad season, you can be out. The club knows that I will not do it (resign). The club would have to do it. I want to be close to the players. I want to be beside them.

“We've lost a lot of games, more than we have in two seasons. I am the boss. I am the manager. I have to find a solution. I am not good enough. It is simple at that. I am not doing well, that is the truth.”
