Sean Dyche has questions to answer about the future of free agent midfielder Dele Alli at Everton.

The ex-England international was training with the Toffees after his contract expired in the summer, with a view to earning a new deal.

The 28-year-old moved to Merseyside in January 2022 but hasn’t played a single game since the 2022/23 campaign at Besiktas through injury.

Despite the Goodison club handing the attacking midfielder the chance to rebuild his career, it now appears that his future lies away from L4.

Alli seems to have moved away from training at Finch Farm, with Fabrizio Romano reporting [16 December] that the former Tottenham man looks set to join Serie A side Como.

MORE TOFFEES STORIES

Cesc Fabregas will be hoping to get the best out of the midfielder, but that won’t guarantee him a place in their squad – it all depends on his performances in training.

The Englishman was in attendance at the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia on Sunday (15 November) for the 2-0 win against Roma.

This would point towards his spell with the Toffees being over, which begs the question of what went wrong for him to depart?

Dyche has to answer that question after all the time that had been put into the ex-MK Dons starlet while being out for various reasons.

There was genuine hope among supporters that they would see Alli in blue again in the future, but now he’s seemingly been let go, that won’t be happening any time soon.

Everton have invested a lot of time in Alli, and not least money, so to see him run out for another club in 2025 would be a bit of a disappointment.

At the same time, given his struggles away from football in the past, everyone will simply wish him all the best.

In other Everton news, The Friedkin Group’s stance on Sean Dyche’s future has been shared as a takeover nears.
