La Liga giants Barcelona have on Monday been credited with an ongoing intetest in the signature of goalkeeper Mio Backhaus.
For those not familiar with his name, Backhaus is a 20-year-old shot-stopper, who is currently on the books of Bundesliga outfit Werder Bremen.
The youngster spent last season out on loan in the Netherlands, with FC Volendam.
And, despite his side’s eventual relegation, Backhaus thoroughly impressed, on his way to being named Eredivisie goalkeeper of the season.
Such exploits piqued the attentions of a whole host of clubs from across the continent, with the aforementioned Barcelona, for one, having been named as a potential summer landing spot for the German.
In the end, no such deal was forthcoming, with Backhaus having gone on to link back up with parent club Werder Bremen.
But, if the latest word stemming from the media this week is anything to go by, then Barca’s interest remains very much alive.
As per a report from **[Mundo Deportivo](https://www.mundodeportivo.com/futbol/fc-barcelona/20241216/1002372221/insisten-interes-barca-portero-aleman-futuro.html)**, citing Sky Germany:
‘While awaiting Ter Stegen’s return and with Szczesny’s probable non-continuity, Barça are looking for a goalkeeper for the future, and in Germany they are once again pointing to Mio Backhaus as a possible signing for the Catalans.’
The Blaugrana and Premier League outfit Brighton & Hove Albion are currently considered the two leading candidates for Backhaus’ signature.
