Tottenham Hotspur skipper Heung-min Son had had an underwhelming 2024/25 campaign judging by his standards, with many Spurs faithful waiting and praying for their talisman to find his feet as they sit on the edge of their seats at White Hart Lane every time the 32-year-old gets the ball. And the former Bayer Leverkusen ace has found his stride and reaffirmed his status as one of the Premier League’s finest with an excellent performance against Southampton yesterday.
The South Korea international has been on the receiving end of ample criticism this season, with former Spurs midfielder Jamie O’Hara insisting that Son is no longer “world-class.”
But Son has his performance do the talking, with one goal and a couple of assists as the Lilywhites won 5-0 at St. Mary’s, showing that the skipper is not only still one of the best players in the league but also is the man to lead Spurs from the front.

Heung-min Son delivered a captain’s performance as Spurs demolished Southampton 5-0
The 32-year-old scored Tottenham’s second with a left-footed finish that snuck under Southampton goalkeeper Alex McCarthy in the twelfth minute, and that was only a start to an excellent half where he went on to assist Pape Matar Sarr with a sharp pass on the edge of the box before setting up James Maddison’s strike with an outside-the-boot pass just before halftime.
And with two assists yesterday, the 32-year-old has now entered the history books; Son became Tottenham Hotspur’s all-time leading assist provider in the English top tier, further cementing his celebrated legacy at the White Hart Lane.

Tottenham supporters would be hoping that Son continues to build his season from here and goes on to deliver in the remaining part of the campaign (like he has always done wearing the Spurs badge).
