Alan Myers admits that Everton may not be looking to sign Dele Alli permanently despite him training at Finch Farm after his contract expired.

The Sky Sports news editor claimed that as he was spotted in Como and watched the team beat Roma, it would be odd if he did not join the Italian side as he’s training with them already.

Until November, it appeared that the Toffees had plans of re-integrating the 28-year-old into the side as he was close to returning to the Under-21s. [Alan Myers, 4 November]

Myers wrote on X: “We [Everton] may not be looking to do anything, I honestly don’t know

“I think Fabregas said he was training and that’s it, but seems odd to go there if there’s nothing in it going forward.”

Everton make the right call by not signing Dele Alli

The club’s decision not to sign Alli permanently could be seen as a prudent move considering his recent history of setbacks in his rehabilitation process.

He has been dealing with multiple injury issues, which have not only hampered his physical condition but also his ability to return to competitive football.

The Premier League’s high pace and intensity would likely pose significant challenges for him in regaining his peak performance.

Also, the time required for him to fully recover and adapt back to the rigours of top-flight football could be extensive, potentially sidelining him for a considerable period.

This scenario might not align with Everton’s needs for immediate impact and reliability in their squad, especially when they find themselves in a relegation battle.

With the new owners set to arrive, they would rather be spending the additional wages on players who will make the team stronger right away.
