Lewis Hall now names the 'fantastic' Newcastle United player he loves playing alongside

Lewis Hall is arguably Newcastle United’s player of the season.

The 20-year-old has enjoyed an outstanding start to the 2024/25 season, despite a lot of his Newcastle United teammates suffering from inconsistency.

But Lewis Hall has gone from strength to strength, establishing himself as a regular starter under Eddie Howe at St James’ Park.

In fact, he has played so well that Hall made his England debut during the previous international break.

The £28million man is getting better and better, with Hall continuing his good form against Leicester City on Saturday. The Toon left-back picked up two assists, setting up goals for Bruno Guimaraes and Alexander Isak.

Hall was the best player on the pitch, but the former Chelsea man has admitted that one teammate makes his life a lot easier.

Following Newcastle United’s 4-0 win over Leicester City, Hall spoke to the Northern Echo.

He addressed his partnership down the left with Anthony Gordon, admitting that he loves playing behind the Magpies’ number 10.

“You want partnerships all over the pitch and I really enjoy playing with Ant because he’s obviously a fantastic player,” he said.

“Sometimes it can make my job easier a little bit by giving him the ball. He does a lot of work on and off the ball and I really enjoy working with him.”

Newcastle’s left flank is becoming even more dangerous

When Newcastle qualified for the Champions League, the right was their strongest side. With Kieran Trippier combining with the likes of Miguel Almiron and Sean Longstaff, most of the Magpies’ attacking play came down that flank. All the while, Dan Burn tucked in to play alongside Fabian Schar and Sven Botman.

Now Eddie Howe has a different back four, with Lewis Hall proving to be a more attacking outlet down the left. He is immensely talented in possession, which is no surprise considering he was a midfielder when he came through the ranks at Chelsea.

And with Gordon in front of him, Newcastle are incredibly dangerous and so unpredictable down that side of the pitch.

Gordon is good enough to go both ways, making him a nightmare for defenders. Then Hall gives them even more to think about, as he bombs forward on the overlap.

They combined brilliantly on Saturday, with their partnership really starting to blossom.

Add in Gordon’s defensive work, and it is no surprise that Hall loves playing with the 23-year-old.
