Alan Stubbs believes Everton must move on from Dominic Calvert-Lewin as he is not prolific enough.

The former Toffees defender is of the view that The Friedkin Group must focus on building a team for the future once their takeover of the club goes through.

He feels Calvert-Lewin is not worth building a team around after being unimpressed by his numbers, although the same cannot be said about Jarrad Branthwaite.

“If you are The Friedkin Group now, you’re trying to build a future, I don’t think our future lies with Dominic Calvert-Lewin”, Stubbs said on the A View From The Bullens podcast (16 December).

“If you flip it the other way, if you’re Branthwaite, now you’re building a future around players like that.

“Not for me. Listen, I think Dominic Calvert-Lewin has got really good attributes, I just don’t think he’s that goalscorer that Everton need now, he’s not prolific enough.

“You look at his stats in terms of what he’s done, we need a 15+ goalscorer a season.”

Alan Stubbs is right, Friedkin must offload Calvert-Lewin from Everton

Calvert-Lewin has started in each of Everton’s 15 Premier League games this season, but his performances have left much to be desired.

The 11-time England international only has two goals and an assist to show for his appearances, with his last goal coming in the Toffees’ 3-2 defeat against Aston Villa on 14 September.

It is worth noting that the 27-year-old is set to enter the final six months of his contract on Merseyside.

One can only wonder if the contract situation is affecting his performances this season.

Nevertheless, it appears that the time has come for the Goodison Park outfit to offload the former Sheffield United man.

However, losing him for free at the end of the season may not be ideal for the Toffees, who would rather sell him in the January transfer window and invest the transfer fees on new signings.

With Sean Dyche’s side lingering near the relegation zone, it remains to be seen if they are prepared to take the risk though.

In other Everton news, Richard Keys has made a huge prediction about Dyche’s future at Goodison Park amid Friedkin’s imminent arrival.
