The two most important people at Liverpool are both huge Milos Kerkez fans

Liverpool's need for a new left-back is not absolutely urgent, but it is an area of the pitch that Arne Slot needs to strengthen in.

Andy Robertson turned 30 earlier this year, while Kostas Tsimikas will turn 30 next season, and there have been issues with both players this term. Robertson has set high standards since joining the Reds from Hull in 2017 but has not been at his best this season, conceding multiple penalties and also receiving a red card in Saturday's 2-2 draw with Fulham.

As for Tsimikas, while he has proved himself to be a dependable back-up for Robertson, the general feeling is that he does not quite have what it takes to usurp the Scot for good, and he has also not appeared since the beginning of November due to an ankle injury.

Of all the positions in Liverpool's back line, left-back needs the most attention, and there have been links with the likes of Alphonso Davies and Milos Kerkez of late. Davies will soon enter the final six months of his contract at Bayern Munich, and will be free to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with non-German clubs from January 1, but his salary demands would probably not fit into Liverpool's wage structure, and he would also command a hefty signing-on bonus.

Reports that Davies could end up signing a contract extension at Bayern have intensified of late too, so there would be plenty of obstacles to overcome were Liverpool to look to sign the Canadian.

Bournemouth's Kerkez is almost certainly a more attainable target than Davies, and links to him are no surprise given the two most important people at Anfield have previous for being interested in the Hungarian.

Liverpool's sporting director, Richard Hughes, was the technical director at Bournemouth when the Cherries signed Kerkez from AZ Alkmaar in 2023, while Slot himself was said to be fond of the 21-year-old when he was managing in the Netherlands. Kerkez spent two years at AZ - one of Slot's former clubs - between 2021 and 2023, so the Liverpool head coach got a good look at him during his time in charge of fellow Eredivisie side Feyenoord.

Given the complexities involved with signing players during winter transfer windows, a January move to Anfield is unlikely for Kerkez, but a move next summer could very much be on the cards. Watch this space.
