Everton have endured a difficult few years.
Ever since Carlo Ancelotti departed for Real Madrid in 2021, Everton have been on a slide towards the foot of the Premier League table.
They’ve been involved in relegation battles under Rafael Benitez, Frank Lampard and now Sean Dyche, so clearly there have been errors made at boardroom level.
Everton’s PSR breaches have played a huge part in their demise as they overspent on a number of flop transfers.
Now, speaking live on Sky Sports News, Stephen Warnock has called out the club’s sporting director Kevin Thelwell for his poor recruitment.

Stephen Warnock rips into Kevin Thelwell for poor recruitment at Everton
Speaking on Sky Sports News, former Liverpool defender Stephen Warnock criticized Everton’s recruitment in recent years and insisted that Kevin Thelwell should be held accountable.
“There needs to be an understanding of how the club’s run,” Warnock explained.
“Since Farhad Moshiri took over, there’s no clear direction. The other thing that needs more accountability is the signings. Kevin Thelwell is in charge now and has spent an awful lot of money.
“He’s spent an awful lot and got away with it. A lot of people say ‘Everton haven’t got money’. They signed Beto for £37million – he’s on the bench. There are lots of others – [Youssef] Chermiti for, what, £20m. It hasn’t worked.

“Straight away, you have two strikers for more than £50m. Why is Thelwell not accountable for those signings?
“Lindstrom has come in for £20m – on the bench. O’Brien comes in for £20m – not played. They have money but don’t know how to spend it. Yet nobody is accountable for it.”
Kevin Thelwell could soon be replaced by Dan Ashworth
Everton News exclusively revealed earlier this month that Thelwell is likely to leave the Goodison Park in the new year.
The Friedkin’s are expected to part ways with Dyche, too, so there’s set to be wholesale changes at the club.
Dan Ashworth is being eyed to replace Thelwell after his Manchester United exit, though, it seems unlikely he’ll be able to have any influnce on the January business.
Anyhow, much needed change is coming, so the new ownership will be hopeful of better recruitment in the coming years.
