‘Unreal’ - BBC pundit says 25y/o Newcastle player is the best in the league in his position

Newcastle United returned to winning ways on Saturday, as they cruised to 4-0 victory against Leicester City in the Premier League.

The Magpies were at their destructive best last weekend and claimed an emphatic win, courtesy of goals from Jacob Murphy, Bruno Guimaraes and Alexander Isak.

The victory ended Newcastle’s four-game winless run in the English top-flight, but their league position remained the same (12th).

BBC football pundit Troy Deeney was left particularly impressed with Isak, who scored an excellent goal and also set up Murphy for his second.

The former Watford star included the 25-year-old in his Premier League team of the week, calling him ‘unreal’ and ‘the best striker in the league’.

Writing in his column for BBC Sport, Deeney said: “The best striker in the Premier League at this moment in time. Yes I’ve said it and yes I stand by it. He’s the complete striker. Unreal. Every time I watch him I keep thinking, how haven’t Arsenal signed him?

“He’s a really good player and finisher. He’s a poacher but he’s also such a silky player. You don’t see many silky poachers”.

Isak has been enjoying a rich vein of form this campaign. He has scored seven goals and created four assists in 14 top-flight appearances.

The striker was on the scoresheet in all his previous three matches against Liverpool, Brentford and Leicester.

Against the Foxes at the weekend, he had three shots on target, registered four key passes and completed six of his eight dribble attempts.

Isak joined Newcastle in the summer of 2022 for a record £63 million fee. He has gone on to establish himself as a key member of the first-team, making 83 appearances in all competitions and scoring 43 goals.
