Manchester United are willing to 'cut their losses' on Aston Villa linked Marcus Rashford in the January transfer window and move the player on if there are any interested clubs next month.

Rashford was omitted from the squad which overcame rivals Manchester City in dramatic circumstances at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday, along with teammate Alejandro Garnacho, as manager Ruben Amorim challenged the forward to regain his place this coming week after his dropping.

The new Old Trafford boss said of Rashford and Garnacho when asked to explain their absences from the squad: “It is important the performance in training, the performance in games, the way you dress, the way you eat, the way you engage with your teammates, the way you push your teammates.”

The attacker is reported to be on north of £300,000 a week following the extension of his contract in the summer of 2023, but United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe is seeking to conduct a major shift in culture behind the scenes and is willing to make a number of difficult decisions, claim the Guardian.

That will mean that Rashford, whose wages will admittedly make things trickier for interested parties, is free to find a new club. Villa were linked earlier this season with an unlikely move for the England international, who scored 30 goals in 2022-23 but has since struggled to match such figures, along with the likes of Marseille and Napoli on the continent.
